Originally established in 1973, the Ohrenberger Community Preschool was the first program at the Ohrenberger Community School. The preschool was created after a community survey identified the need for a quality, affordable early childhood program for local families. From the beginning, the program reflected what has remained central to our mission: listening to the needs of the community and creating accessible programs that serve children and families.

The Ohrenberger Community School, which later became known as the Ohrenberger Community Center, was built on a unique partnership between the City of Boston and the surrounding neighborhoods of West Roxbury, Hyde Park, and Roslindale. Through a locally elected Community Council, residents helped identify community needs and develop programs to meet them. Proceeds from early programs such as the preschool helped support other activities at the Center, including low-cost and no-cost opportunities for youth, community groups, and families.

In the late 1990s, out-of-school-time and camp programs for elementary school-aged children were added to address the changing needs of the neighborhood.

Over the years, the Ohrenberger Community Center Council has continued that tradition by offering affordable, community-based programming for children, teens, and families.

Today, we are proud to carry that history forward through our gymnastics, after school and summer camp programs. While our programs have changed over time, our purpose remains the same: to provide safe, welcoming, affordable, and enriching opportunities for the children and families of our community.

The Ohrenberger Community Center Council Inc. is a community partner of the Boston Centers for Youth and Families; a city wide network of forty-eight community centers.
